Founded in 1976, the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre opens to the public on September 9, 1979. Montreal's Holocaust survivor community holds a commemorative march and carries an urn, filled with the ashes of Auschwitz-Birkenau victims, to the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre.
