Gerry Maass' Passport, 1938

Gerry Maass' passport, issued by the Nazi government on July 29th, 1938. In January 1939, Gerry went to the consulate and added a ‘J' to his passport, indicating that he was a Jew. His name was also officially changed to Gerhart Adolf Israel Maass. (MHM Collection, Gerhart Adolf Maass Fonds)

Two pages of a passport . The passport’s first page, on the right, is stamped with a red "J" and date 1/1/1939, and a circular ink stamp from the Police President of Hamburg and another green circular ink stamp. There is handwriting along the border of the page.
