War Orphans Project

Order-in-Council 1647 grants permission for Jewish war orphans to enter Canada. Between 1947 and 1949, 1,123 Jewish orphans come to Canada as part of the War Orphans Project. As stipulated by the government, the Jewish community assumes full responsibility for the orphans' support through the work of the Canadian Jewish Congress. About 70% of the youth arriving through this program are teenage boys.
